How we can help

Many wartime veterans and their surviving spouses qualify for a little-known VA benefit called Aid and Attendance. It’s a monthly, tax-free payment that can help cover the cost of in-home care. ProSkills Home Health Care Services provides trusted, licensed caregivers across metro Atlanta. We help families understand this benefit and connect with free, accredited help to apply.

Who May Qualify

  •  Veterans 65+ who served at least one day during a wartime period
  • Surviving spouses who did not remarry after the veteran’s death
  • People who need help with daily living activities
  • People whose income and assets fall within VA limits

The Process

  •  Free care consultation. We meet with your family to understand your loved one’s needs.
  • Care plan and documentation. Our RN-supervised team writes a care plan and keeps records showing the need for care.
  • Connection to free application help. We refer you to accredited Veterans Service Officers, who help with VA claims at no cost.
  • Care that starts right away. Care doesn’t have to wait for VA approval.

Do I Qualify?

A veteran must have served at least one day during a wartime period. They don’t have to have been in combat or deployed overseas.

Qualifying wartime periods

World War II Dec 7, 1941 – Dec 31, 1946

Korean ConflictJune 27, 1950 – Jan 31, 1955

Vietnam Era (served in Vietnam)Nov 1, 1955 – May 7, 1975;

Vietnam Era (served anywhere else)Aug 5, 1964 – May 7, 1975

Gulf WarAug 2, 1990 – present (no end date set yet)

Length of service

  • Started active duty before Sept 8, 1980: at least 90 days of active duty, with at least 1 day during wartime
  • Enlisted after Sept 7, 1980: generally 24 months, or the full period they were called up for (with some exceptions), with at least 1 day during wartime

The veteran also cannot have a dishonorable discharge.

Age

  • Veterans: at least 65 years old. A veteran under 65 can qualify if they are permanently and totally disabled for reasons not related to their service. Receiving Social Security Disability or living in a nursing home and getting skilled care also counts.
  • Surviving spouses: no age requirement. They must have been married to a qualifying veteran and not have remarried.

All of these also apply:

  • Income and net worth must be under the VA limits.
  • For Aid and Attendance specifically, the person must need help with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, or medications, or need supervision because of dementia.
